Real boys do cry
I saw the most lovely movie yesterday – Marc Forster’s ”Finding Neverland”. The film is a try to retell the story of the writer of ”Peter Pan” and with Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet in the main roles – it couldn’t be a failure could it?
”Young boys should never be sent to bed – they always wake up a day older.” Johnny Depp states in Finding Neverland and the quote kind of sums it all up.
The movie reaches rock bottom only once and also here it is an accident or the result of several inconviniences. A honestly aqward sitiuation occurs when someone comments Depp’s characters close relation to young boys… and a direct parallel can be drawn to a certain Mr Jackson of an other Neverland.
I seldom shed a tear during a movie, but when the bottom line of the story was revealed as never giving up your sense of dreaming and, as growing up seemed to be a threat against creativity, I certainly got some fairydust in my eyes.
Anyways I was in great company; a co-journalist and co-student from Switzerland just arrived the same day to stay for almost a week. Trying to keep up a professional conversation I slipped into the studies – and quickly learned both the importance of telling the truth (even to likeable girls) and that it IS quite ok for boys to cry – at least when visiting a cinema.
– Yes L, I too cried which means I am maybe somewhere as sensitive as you. Maybe.
